If you're within driving distance, the Children's Book Illustrator show at the University of New England is phenomenal. And if you're in the vicinity, you might as well swing over to the Big Sky Bread Company because they make apple turnovers that are kind of awesome.

I just totaled up the weeks left in the year; only 12 to go! Also, I should probably figure out just how many cups of coffee I've drank up until this point.

  1. I've been reading your posts for a while, but never commented. I had to today; Trina Schart Hyman is my very very favorite illustrator!!! I relate to this comic a lot!

  2. I cried at my desk the day I learned that Trina Schart Hyman had passed away. Her work permeated my childhood and still takes me to other worlds. I wish I were near the U of NE and could see the show...

  3. Ditto to what Sarah and Auntly H said. I grew up reading Cricket magazine, and am still sad at her passing.

  4. Trina Schart Hyman helped to shape my world. I grew up in the 60s & 70s when she was most prolific. It seemed as if every other chapter book I read was illustrated by her and they are now inseparable from the story. My artistic mother bought all her picture books and still has them. I was a subscriber to Cricket magazine, where TSH was on staff, and loved her Cricket and Ladybug comic so much my girlfriend and I took on the names Cricket and Ladybug during our teen years. I still have all my Cricket magazines and have made them available to my kids and grandkids. I miss her work so much!
